In the summer of 2023, a friend reawakened my passion for knitting while hiking. It started with an attempt at a simple sock and culminated in the spring of 2026 with the idea for MEEMEA.
MEEMEA has a rather pragmatic and tongue-in-cheek background. It originated at my previous workplace in a completely different context from the accusation: „Macht Endlich Einfach Mal Eure Arbeit.“ (“Just do your work.”)
A colleague and I then named our shared project folder after the acronym. MEEMEA!
When I was later looking for a name for my business, it came to mind. Apart from the personal memory, the name is unique, internationally usable, and sounds wonderfully fluid. And if you look closely, the wink from back then doesn’t fit my design process today so badly. Because to create a knitted piece by hand, you simply have to sit down and focus on your work: “Everything starts with the first knit.”
Founding
MEEMEA Designs was registered as a business on 2026-05-01. This was preceded by the registration of the MEEMEA® word mark in the European Union.
In the following months, initial designs were converted into patterns, and suitable manufacturers for labels, tags, and printed materials, for example, were sought. In addition, this website was set up and filled with content.
Since 2026-11-01, meemea.eu has been officially online and is being filled with designs, tips, and interesting facts. Instagram, Ravelry, and YouTube complement the online presence.
Design
My designs follow a clean, rather architectural aesthetic. I am inspired by current trends as well as traditional lace and cable patterns to develop timeless pieces.
My knitted pieces are made entirely without external materials such as buttons, fabrics, or zippers. I also avoid knitting separate individual parts and sewing them together afterward.
For a MEEMEA design, you essentially only need five things: your knitting needles, the right yarn, the pattern, stitch markers, and a darning needle.
Materials
I love working with high-quality natural fibers. Even though synthetic fibers have their advantages in other areas, such as for socks or machine washing, they do not fit my philosophy of a MEEMEA design.
For me, it’s the interplay of positive properties that convinces. They are renewable raw materials with their own unique characteristics. Since the fibers are genuine natural products, each yarn has a lively texture. If cared for with the right diligence, they are extremely durable and often become even more beautiful over time.

Behind the Stitches
Hi! I’m Stefan, the head (and hands) behind MEEMEA. A person with an eye for detail. MEEMEA is not about reinventing the world of knitting or evaluating other approaches. It’s about how I understand and live the craft: honest, structured, and passionate.
